Santanu Chaudhury

Santanu Chaudhury is a researcher in image analysis and recognition whose work includes Bengali numeral recognition and ultrasound image segmentation. He earned a B.Tech and a Ph.D. at IIT Kharagpur and joined IIT Delhi in 1992, where he coauthored a backpropagation paper on Bengali numerals. In 1993, he received the INSA Medal for Young Scientists; he became an IAPR Fellow in 2014 and directed CSIR-CEERI and IIT Jodhpur. As of October 2026, he is Dean and Professor at Ashoka University's School of Advanced Computing and Vice-President (Projects) of INAE.

    He earns a B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering in 1984 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering in 1989 at IIT Kharagpur.
