Mausam
Mausam researches planning under uncertainty, information extraction and language-based reasoning. He earned his Washington doctorate in 2007 under Daniel Weld. His 2012 work includes a Markov-decision-process book with Andrey Kolobov and shared open language-learning research with four collaborators. He joined IIT Delhi in 2013 and headed its Yardi School of AI from 2020 to 2023. The shared extraction paper received an ACL test-of-time award in 2022. AAAI elected him a Fellow in 2024. His later work connects language models and symbolic reasoning.
Timeline
-
2007
Stochastic planning doctoral work
Mausam earned a Washington doctorate in 2007 under Daniel Weld. His dissertation studied stochastic planning with concurrent, durative actions. He became a Washington research assistant professor in October 2007. This research examines decisions when actions can overlap and their results are uncertain.
-
2012
Planning and shared language research
With Andrey Kolobov, Mausam published Planning with Markov Decision Processes: An AI Perspective in 2012. That year he, Michael Schmitz, Robert Bart, Stephen Soderland and Oren Etzioni published Open Language Learning for Information Extraction.
-
2013–2023
IIT Delhi and AI institution building
Mausam joined IIT Delhi as visiting faculty in October 2013, became an associate professor in July 2014 and a full professor in November 2019. He headed the Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence from September 2020 to September 2023. His work connects research with academic teaching and institution building.
-
2022–2024 and later
Recognition and reasoning methods
ACL awarded the shared 2012 extraction paper its 2022 test-of-time award. AAAI elected Mausam a Fellow in 2024. His later work includes question answering, language models, neural-symbolic learning and sequential decisions.
