Researcher

Renzhen Wang

Also known as 王仁振

Renzhen Wang is an assistant professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University whose research covers continual learning, knowledge editing for large models and computer-aided diagnosis. They published a 2018 paper on lesion detection in fundus images and a 2021 paper on pairwise learning for medical image segmentation. Their 2024 ICLR paper Meta Continual Learning Revisited, written with Yichen Wu, Long-Kai Huang, Deyu Meng and Ying Wei, was presented as an oral and received an Honorable Mention. SD-LoRA, a method for class incremental learning, followed in an oral session at ICLR 2025, and the hierarchical classification framework Label Hierarchy Transition appeared in IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence in 2026.

Timeline

  1. 2018

    Fundus lesion detection

In 2018, they publish Weakly Supervised Lesion Detection from Fundus Images in IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, written with Benzhi Chen, Deyu Meng and Lisheng Wang.

  2. 2021

    Pairwise learning for segmentation

In 2021, they publish Pairwise Learning for Medical Image Segmentation in Medical Image Analysis, in a special issue on MICCAI 2019. Shilei Cao, Kai Ma, Yefeng Zheng and Deyu Meng are the coauthors.

  3. 2023

Bias adaptors at ICLR and ICCV

In 2023, they publish Imbalanced Semi-supervised Learning with Bias Adaptive Classifier at ICLR, written with Xixi Jia, Quanziang Wang, Yichen Wu and Deyu Meng. They also coauthor CBA: Improving Online Continual Learning via Continual Bias Adaptor at ICCV 2023, a module that helps the classifier network adapt to catastrophic distribution change during training.

  4. 2024

    An ICLR honorable mention

Their ICLR 2024 paper Meta Continual Learning Revisited: Implicitly Enhancing Online Hessian Approximation via Variance Reduction, written with Yichen Wu, Long-Kai Huang, Deyu Meng and Ying Wei, is presented as an oral and receives an Honorable Mention among the 2024 Outstanding Paper Awards. The paper proposes a variance reduction approach to meta continual learning and backs it with a regret analysis.

  5. 2025

    SD-LoRA at ICLR 2025

In 2025, SD-LoRA: Scalable Decoupled Low-Rank Adaptation for Class Incremental Learning, written with Yichen Wu, Hanspeter Pfister, Deyu Meng, Kede Ma, Ying Wei and others, is presented in an oral session at ICLR 2025. The method continually separates the learning of the magnitude and direction of LoRA components without rehearsal. They also coauthor Semi-Supervised Regression with Heteroscedastic Pseudo-Labels at NeurIPS 2025 with Xueqing Sun, Quanziang Wang, Yichen Wu, Xixi Jia and Deyu Meng.

  6. 2026

    Label Hierarchy Transition in TPAMI

In 2026, they publish Label Hierarchy Transition: Delving into Class Hierarchies to Enhance Deep Classifiers in IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, written with De Cai, Kaiwen Xiao, Xixi Jia, Xiao Han and Deyu Meng. The paper proposes a probabilistic framework for hierarchical classification built from a transition network and a confusion loss.

  7. As of October 2026

    Assistant professor at Xi'an Jiaotong

By 2026, they are an assistant professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University. Their 2026 paper Diagnosing and Mitigating Evidence Misgrounding in Multimodal Knowledge Editing, written with Zhiwu Wang, Yichen Wu, Jinqian Yang, Yizhou Yang, Qian Zhao and Deyu Meng, appears in Findings of EMNLP. Since 2023, they focus on continual learning and knowledge editing for large models.
