Nasir Rajpoot
Also known as N M Rajpoot, Nasir M. Rajpoot
Nasir Rajpoot is a computational pathology researcher at the University of Warwick whose group develops AI and machine-learning algorithms that study cancer from tissue slides. Originally from Multan, he held fellowships at PIEAS in Pakistan and at Yale, completed a computer science PhD at Warwick in 2001, and began there as a Lecturer. He founded the Tissue Image Analytics lab in 2012, co-authored the HoVer-Net nucleus segmentation network in 2018, co-directed the £15m PathLAKE centre of excellence on AI in pathology from 2019 to 2024, and became GSK Chair of Computational Pathology in March 2023. In February 2024, he began leading Histofy, a spinout from his Warwick group. He is Professor of Computational Pathology and Director of the Tissue Image Analytics Centre at Warwick, and he is co-founder and CEO and CSO of Histofy.

Timeline
-
1994–2001
Fellowships and a Warwick PhD
From Multan, he is a systems engineering fellow at PIEAS in Pakistan from 1994 to 1996 and a postgraduate research fellow in the Applied Math program at Yale, partly based at the School of Medicine, from 1998 to 2000. He completes a PhD in Computer Science at Warwick in 2001 and starts his academic career there as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor).
-
2012–2016
Founding the TIA lab
In 2012, he becomes founding Director of the Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) lab at Warwick, which later becomes the TIA Centre. In 2016, he also takes an Honorary Scientist position in the Department of Pathology at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.
-
2018
The HoVer-Net nucleus network
In 2018, he co-authors HoVer-Net with Simon Graham and colleagues, a convolutional neural network that segments and classifies nuclei in histology images at the same time. The work also introduces a dataset of colorectal adenocarcinoma image tiles with 24,319 annotated nuclei.
-
2019–2024
Co-directing the PathLAKE centre
From 2019 to 2024, he is co-Director of PathLAKE, a £15m national Centre of Excellence on AI in pathology in the UK. In 2019, he also serves as President of the European Congress of Digital Pathology.
-
2022
The TIAToolbox library
In 2022, he is a co-author of TIAToolbox, a Python toolbox from the Tissue Image Analytics Centre that makes computational pathology accessible to computational, biomedical and clinical researchers.
-
March 2023
GSK Chair of Computational Pathology
In March 2023, Warwick announces him as the new GSK Chair of Computational Pathology, a post that deepens the existing partnership between GSK and Warwick.
-
February 2024
Leading the Histofy team
In February 2024, he starts leading the team at Histofy, a spinout from the TIA Centre aimed at accelerated precision diagnostics in clinical and pharmaceutical workflows.
-
As of October 2026
Warwick professor and Histofy CEO
He is Professor of Computational Pathology and founding Director of the Tissue Image Analytics Centre at Warwick, and co-founder and CEO and CSO of Histofy. Histofy has developed COBI, an AI algorithm that supports histopathologists in the screening and triage of large bowel biopsies.
