Drew McDermott
Drew McDermott studied automated planning and computational accounts of cognition, with shared work on translating between ontologies. McDermott chaired the committee that began the AI Planning Systems Competition in 1998. The committee developed PDDL as a language for specifying planning domains. He documented the competition in a 2000 AI Magazine paper. McDermott, Dejing Dou and Peishen Qi published shared work on ontology translation on the Semantic Web in 2003. Burstein and McDermott published work on interoperability among semantic web services in 2005. His work connects logical representations with communication between software systems.

A planning competition and a common language
McDermott chaired the committee that began the AI Planning Systems Competition in 1998. The committee developed PDDL as a language for specifying planning domains. He documented the competition in a 2000 AI Magazine paper.

Mind and mechanism
McDermott published Mind and Mechanism with MIT Press. His research interests include AI, cognitive science and philosophy.

2002–2003
Planning with processes and services
He published work on estimated-regression planning for web services in 2002 and reasoning about autonomous processes in a planner in 2003. With Mark Burstein, he also studied multiagent planning in 2002.
