Christian P. Robert

Also known as Christian Robert

Christian Robert is a statistician who works on Bayesian statistics and Monte Carlo methods, and he holds a prAIrie chair at the Paris AI Research Institute. He completed a doctorate in 1987 after studying at ENSAE, and his book The Bayesian Choice received the ISBA DeGroot Prize in 2003. From 2006 to 2009 he edited the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B, and in 2008 he presided over the International Society for Bayesian Analysis. He leads one of four teams in the OCEAN project, which won an ERC Synergy Grant in 2022. As of October 2026, he is a professor at CEREMADE, Université Paris-Dauphine, and he received the Sixth Akaike Memorial Lecture Award in 2026.

  1. 1987

    A doctorate after ENSAE

    He studies at ENSAE and defends a doctoral thesis in 1987.

  2. 2000–2013

    Paris Dauphine, then Warwick

    He becomes a professor at Université Paris-Dauphine in 2000. From 2013 he is also a professor at the University of Warwick.

  3. 2003

    The DeGroot Prize

    The Bayesian Choice wins the ISBA DeGroot Prize in 2003. He co-wrote Monte Carlo Statistical Methods with George Casella.

  4. 2006–2009

    Editor of JRSS Series B

    From 2006 to 2009 he serves as editor in chief of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B. In 2008 he presides over the International Society for Bayesian Analysis.

  5. Since 2019

    A prAIrie research chair

    At the Paris AI Research Institute he holds a prAIrie chair from 2019.

  6. 2022

    An ERC Synergy grant

    The OCEAN project wins a 9 million euro ERC Synergy Grant in 2022, and he leads one of its four teams.

  7. 2026

    The Akaike Memorial Lecture Award

    In 2026 he receives the Sixth Akaike Memorial Lecture Award.

    Professor at Paris Dauphine

    At CEREMADE, Université Paris-Dauphine, he is a professor, and in 2026 he is also a part-time professor of statistics at Warwick.
