Nasir Memon

Also known as Nasir D. Memon

Nasir Memon is a New York University researcher whose work covers machine learning, biometrics, multimedia forensics and cryptography. He led a project on gesture-based alternatives to passwords in 2011, and he headed the computer science and engineering department at NYU Polytechnic in 2015. In 2019 he and Paweł Korus argued that modern digital imaging already relies on machine learning, and the International Association for Pattern Recognition named him a Fellow in 2020. He is interim dean of the division of computer science, data science, and engineering at NYU Shanghai, a post that NYU announced in June 2023.

    The INFER detection system

    In 2009 he develops INFER, a network-based infection detection system.

  3. 2011

    Gesture-based passwords

    He leads a project in 2011 to develop gesture-based alternatives to passwords on touch screen devices.

  4. 2015

    Department head at NYU Polytechnic

    In 2015 he heads the NYU Polytechnic department of computer science and engineering.

  5. 2019

    An AI-driven imaging system

    With Paweł Korus, he argues in 2019 that modern digital imaging already relies on machine learning.

  6. 2020

    An IAPR Fellowship

    The International Association for Pattern Recognition names him a Fellow in 2020 for contributions to machine learning, biometrics, multimedia forensics, and cryptography.

  7. June 2023

    Appointment to NYU Shanghai

    NYU announces in June 2023 that he will be interim dean of computer science, data science, and engineering at NYU Shanghai.

  8. March 2026

    Interim dean at NYU Shanghai

    In March 2026 he is interim dean of the division of computer science, data science, and engineering at NYU Shanghai.
