Mohamed Daoudi

Also known as Mohammed Daoudi

Mohamed Daoudi is a computer scientist whose research on 3D shapes reaches from object retrieval and face analysis to deep generative models of human faces and motion. After a Ph.D. in computer engineering at the University of Lille in 1993, he co-edited the Wiley books 3D Object Processing in 2008 and 3D Face Modeling, Analysis and Recognition in 2013. The International Association for Pattern Recognition named him a Fellow in 2014 for contributions to 3D shape analysis and retrieval. He co-authored a CVPR 2022 paper on generating dynamic 3D facial expressions and a 2023 IEEE Transactions on Multimedia paper on human reaction generation, and he was General Chair of the IEEE Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition conference in 2019 and 2025. He is a Full Professor of Computer Science at IMT Nord Europe and heads the Image Group at the CRIStAL Laboratory.

    Co-editing 3D Object Processing

    Wiley publishes 3D Object Processing: Compression, Indexing and Watermarking in 2008, edited by Jean-Luc Dugelay with Atilla Baskurt and Mohamed Daoudi as co-editors. The book brings together compression, retrieval and watermarking techniques for 3D objects.

  3. 2013

    A Wiley book on 3D faces

    In 2013, he co-edits 3D Face Modeling, Analysis and Recognition with Anuj Srivastava and Remco Veltkamp. The Wiley book presents methods for analyzing shapes of facial surfaces and tests its algorithms on facial biometric data. He is a member of the computer science department at TELECOM Lille 1.

  4. 2014

    An IAPR Fellowship

    In 2014, the International Association for Pattern Recognition names him an IAPR Fellow for contributions to 3D shape analysis and retrieval and related applications.

  5. 2018–2019

    Associate editor and FG chair

    In May 2018, as head of the 3D SAM team, he is appointed Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia. In 2019, he serves as General Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition (FG), held in Lille.

  6. 2022–2023

    Generating faces and reactions

    A paper accepted at CVPR 2022, coauthored with Naima Otberdout, Claudio Ferrari, Stefano Berretti and Alberto Del Bimbo, generates dynamic 3D facial expressions from a neutral 3D face and an expression label, using a manifold-valued GAN called Motion3DGAN. In 2023, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia carries the Interaction Transformer (InterFormer), coauthored with Baptiste Chopin, Hao Tang, Naima Otberdout and Nicu Sebe, which generates a reaction from an input action.

  7. 2024–2025

    FG 2024 keynote, FG 2025 chair

    In May 2024, he gives a keynote at the 18th IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition in Istanbul, on synthesizing 3D faces and human interactions. In 2025, he is General Chair of the 19th edition, held in Clearwater, USA.

    Professor at IMT Nord Europe

    He is a Full Professor of Computer Science at IMT Nord Europe and Head of the Image Group at the CRIStAL Laboratory. His grants include the 4D Shape project (2024–2027), a joint ANR and US NSF project on 4D human shape analysis and synthesis, and he is set to serve as General Chair of FG 2027.
