El-Ghazali Talbi
Also known as El‐Ghazali Talbi
El-Ghazali Talbi is a computer scientist whose research connects metaheuristics with parallel and multiobjective optimization and machine learning. He worked in Grenoble and Lille, earned a computer-science doctorate at INPG in 1993, and joined Lille 1 as an associate professor in 1994. At Lille, he became a professor in 2001 and led optimization teams; his publications range from a 2002 taxonomy and a 2009 book on metaheuristics to a 2016 study of machine-learning hybrids and 2025 work on neuromorphic optimization. He was named a senior member of the Institut universitaire de France in 2026 and is a professor of computer science at Université de Lille as of October 2026.

Research and doctoral study
He works as a contract researcher at Grenoble's Laboratoire de Génie Informatique / IMAGrenoble from 1989 to 1992. He earns a DEA in computer science at ENSIMAG/INPG in 1989 and a PhD in computer science at INPG in 1993, advised by T. Muntean.
-
1992–2001
From Grenoble to Lille
He serves as an ATER at Université Grenoble II from 1992 to 1994, then joins Université Lille 1's UFR IEEA as a maître de conférences (associate professor) in 1994 and holds the post through 2001.
-
1998–2017
Professor and optimization leader
He leads the OPAC/DOLPHIN team at LIFL and CRISTAL from 1998 to 2017, becomes a full professor at Université de Lille in 2001, and leads Inria's DOLPHIN project team from 2004 to 2017. His research spans metaheuristics, parallel algorithms and multiobjective optimization.
