Researcher

Brian C. Lovell

Brian Lovell is a University of Queensland researcher whose AI work spans video analysis, computer vision, and medical imaging. He earned engineering, computer science, and signal-processing degrees at UQ, then led research at National ICT Australia from 2006 to 2012. IAPR named him a Fellow in 2008 for work in video and medical image analysis; he served as its president from 2008 to 2010. He coauthored research on generating keywords from surveillance video and helped build computer-vision and machine-learning systems for digital pathology. In 2025, he coordinated UQ's Computer Vision and Deep Learning course; as of October 2026, he leads UQ's Advanced Surveillance Group.
