Sylvie Thiébaux
Also known as Sylvie Thiebaux
Sylvie Thiébaux researches automated planning, scheduling, diagnosis and search. She completed an engineering degree in 1991 and a Rennes doctorate in 1995 on time-bounded planning under uncertainty. Her career includes Inria, CSIRO, ANU and research leadership within NICTA. Her work applies planning methods in energy and transport, including aircraft planning under uncertain conditions and coordination of distributed energy resources. She also works on trustworthy planning with learning and explanations through the TUPLES project.

Timeline
-
1991–1995
Study planning under uncertainty
Thiébaux completed an engineering degree at INSA in 1991 and a computer science doctorate at Rennes in 1995. Her thesis focused on time-bounded planning under uncertainty.
-
1995–2016
Research in France and Australia
She held Inria appointments during 1995–1997 and worked at CSIRO during 1997–2001 before joining ANU. She also held roles within NICTA during 2003–2016, including directing its Canberra laboratory.
-
2018–2019
Plan transport under uncertain conditions
She collaborated with Airbus on the DONUT project for planning and scheduling aircraft and satellites. The project addressed four-dimensional flight planning under weather uncertainty, fuel consumption and other constraints.
-
2022 onward
Trustworthy planning with learning
She joined TUPLES in October 2022. The project concerns trustworthy planning and scheduling with learning and explanations. Her wider research also applies optimization to energy networks and distributed resources, linking AI decisions with physical systems.
