Guifré Vidal

Also known as Guifre Vidal

Guifré Vidal is a Spanish physicist whose tensor-network methods connect quantum physics with machine learning. He published a method for simulating time evolution in quantum spin chains in 2004, and in 2007 he proposed entanglement renormalization, a real-space renormalization scheme for quantum systems. In 2019 he co-authored TensorNetwork, an open source library for physics and machine learning, and by September 2019 he was a research scientist at Sandbox @ Alphabet. A 2023 paper applied Google's tensor processing units, chips built to accelerate machine learning, to tensor-network algorithms. As of October 2026, he works at Google Quantum AI.
