Where do the people shaping AI keep public social and code accounts, and how does platform use differ across roles, sectors, countries and career generations? Across the 7,547 people we track, 3,320 (44%) have at least one verified or Wikidata-sourced external link, and 1,935 (26%) have an account on at least one of six social, code and video platforms: LinkedIn (1,377), X (1,193), GitHub (557), YouTube (51), Mastodon (50) and Bluesky (35). The other 1,385 linked people (42%) have only a personal or institutional website (2,370 total) or a Google Scholar profile (2,176 total).

Key findings

  • LinkedIn and X cover 94% of everyone with a social, code or video account: 1,820 of the 1,935 people with a platform account appear on LinkedIn (1,377 people, 18% of all 7,547), X (1,193, 16%), or both (750 people). GitHub is third with 557 people (7%), followed by YouTube (51), Mastodon (50) and Bluesky (35). Among the 66 distinct people with a Bluesky or Mastodon account, 61 (92%) also keep an X account.
  • Lab leaders (60%) lead role groups in platform adoption, compared with 20% of researchers: 60% of lab leaders (186 of 312), 58% of public voices (255 of 441) and 54% of builders (234 of 437) have a recorded social, code or video account, compared with 20% of researchers (1,260 of 6,357). Public voices are the only role group where X (203, 46%) leads LinkedIn (179, 41%), and public voices hold 19 of the 35 Bluesky accounts (54%).
  • Company people use social and code platforms at a higher rate than university people: 37% of current company people (992 of 2,692) have a platform account, compared with 28% at institutes and labs (409 of 1,466) and 21% at universities (849 of 4,047). Across the 17 countries with at least 50 current workers, platform adoption ranges from 32% in the United States to 3% in South Korea.
  • Among 2020–2026 career entrants with a recorded link, LinkedIn (63%) and X (59%) surpass personal websites (54%) and Google Scholar (50%): Across the 268 linked entrants whose earliest dated work position began in 2020–2026 (of 872 entrants), 168 (63%) use LinkedIn and 157 (59%) use X, ahead of websites (144, 54%) and Google Scholar (135, 50%), and GitHub reaches 42% (112 people), up from 0% (1 of 335) among entrants who started before 1980.

LinkedIn and X lead, and 92% of Bluesky and Mastodon users also use X

Across the 1,935 people with at least one social, code or video account, 969 (50%) appear on a single platform, 643 (33%) appear on two, 291 (15%) appear on three, and 32 (2%) appear on four or more—led by Simon Willison with 6 platforms. 750 people hold both a LinkedIn and an X account, 627 hold LinkedIn without X, and 443 hold X without LinkedIn. Of the 750, 263 also hold a GitHub account, and 110 of the 557 people on GitHub (20%) have neither LinkedIn nor X.
