Mohamed Abd Elaziz
Also known as Mohamed Abd El Aziz, Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Mohammed Abd Elaziz
Mohamed Abd Elaziz is a computer scientist who applies metaheuristic optimization and machine learning to medical imaging and COVID-19 forecasting. After earning a Ph.D. in mathematics and computer science at Zagazig University in 2014, he coauthored COVID-19 studies in 2020 on forecasting confirmed cases and on classifying chest X-ray images with swarm-based feature selection. He directed the artificial intelligence program at Galala University in Egypt and chaired its fourth international AI conference in December 2025. In 2026, the Stanford–Elsevier ranking of the world's top 2% of scientists included him in both its career-long and single-year impact categories. He is a professor of artificial intelligence at the Artificial Intelligence Research Center of Ajman University in the UAE.

Timeline
-
2008–2014
Degrees at Zagazig University
He earns a B.S. in 2008 and an M.S. in 2011 in computer science at Zagazig University, then a Ph.D. in mathematics and computer science there in 2014. From 2008 to 2011, he works as an assistant lecturer in the department of computer science.
-
March 2020
Forecasting COVID-19 cases
In March 2020, he coauthors a forecasting model for confirmed COVID-19 cases in China with Mohammed A. A. Al-qaness, Ahmed A. Ewees and Hong Fan, from Zagazig University's Department of Mathematics. The model tunes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system with a flower pollination algorithm enhanced by the salp swarm algorithm, and it is tested on World Health Organization data.

June–September 2020
Chest X-ray diagnosis of COVID-19
In June 2020, he coauthors a PLOS ONE paper with Khalid M. Hosny, Ahmad Salah, Mohamed M. Darwish, Songfeng Lu and Ahmed T. Sahlol that classifies chest X-ray images as COVID-19 or non-COVID-19, using Fractional Multichannel Exponent Moments features and a modified Manta-Ray Foraging Optimization for feature selection. A Scientific Reports paper of September 2020 pairs Inception features with a fractional-order marine predators algorithm.
