Fu‐Guo Deng
Also known as Fu-Guo Deng, Deng Fuguo, Fuguo Deng, 邓富国
Fu‐Guo Deng was a quantum-information physicist whose research covered secure quantum communication, photonic computing and quantum metrology. With Gui Lu Long and Xiao-Shu Liu, he proposed an EPR-pair protocol for direct messaging in 2003; the group received a Thomson Scientific Research Fronts Award for the paper in 2008. His later work explored superdense coding and quantum gates for photons. Papers published in 2021 and 2022 listed him among their coauthors on quantum metrology and non-Markovian dynamics after his death in 2019.
Timeline
-
2003
Direct messaging with EPR pairs
With Gui Lu Long and Xiao-Shu Liu, Deng proposes a quantum secure direct communication protocol at Tsinghua's Department of Physics in 2003. It sends secret messages directly in blocks of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs and appears in Physical Review A 68, 042317.
-
2004
A one-time pad of photons
In 2004, he and Gui Lu Long publish a direct-communication protocol that uses batches of single photons, prepared randomly in one of four states, as a one-time pad for direct message encoding. They show it is unconditionally secure.
-
2005
High-dimension superdense coding
In 2005, Deng, Chuan Wang, Yan-Song Li, Xiao-Shu Liu and Gui Lu Long publish a direct-communication protocol that combines block transmission, the ping-pong protocol and quantum superdense coding. Deng's affiliations include Tsinghua's Department of Physics and Beijing Normal University's Institute of Low Energy Nuclear Physics.
-
2008
A Research Fronts Award
At a Beijing ceremony in 2008, Tsinghua physics professor Gui Lu Long, doctoral candidate Deng Fuguo and postdoctoral researcher Liu Xiaoshu win the first Thomson Scientific Research Fronts Awards in China for their EPR-pair-block paper. A total of 24 research papers from China win awards.
-
2014
Hyper-parallel photonic computing
In 2014, Deng and Bao-Cang Ren publish a hyper-parallel photonic quantum-computing scheme whose hyper-CNOT gate operates on both the spatial-mode and polarization degrees of freedom of two photons at once. It uses quantum-dot spins in double-sided optical microcavities. Both authors list Beijing Normal University's Department of Physics and Applied Optics Beijing Area Major Laboratory as their affiliation.

2019
Death in 2019
He dies in 2019.
-
2021
Quantum metrology with one qubit
A 2021 paper lists Deng, Qing Ai, Wan-Ting He and colleagues in Beijing Normal University's Department of Physics as coauthors of a metrology scheme that uses one auxiliary qubit to offset noise in a correlated environment. With a suitable auxiliary state, its precision approaches the Heisenberg limit.
-
March 2022
Non-Markovian open dynamics
A paper published in March 2022 lists Deng, Qing Ai, Gui-Lu Long and colleagues from Beijing Normal University and Tsinghua as coauthors on a fully controllable platform for non-Markovian open quantum dynamics. The team combines quantum mutual information with quantum Fisher information flow to measure non-Markovianity across multiple channels. Deng's affiliation is Beijing Normal University's Department of Physics and Applied Optics Beijing Area Major Laboratory.
