Chin-Chen Chang
Also known as Chin‐Chen Chang
Chin-Chen Chang is a computer science professor whose work spans computer graphics, image processing and AI methods for visual tasks. He coauthored a GPU-based voxelization algorithm for polygon models and 3D streamlines in 2010. He coauthored an object-protecting image-resizing approach in 2017, a video style-transfer method in 2018 and neural-network traffic-sign recognition in 2020. His 2023 style-transfer paper on sand-painting generation was extended with convolutional neural networks in 2024; he contributed methodology, writing review and editing, and supervision. In 2025, he coauthored an outdoor augmented-reality system using depth prediction, and as of October 2026 he is a professor at National United University and supervises its Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory.
Timeline
-
2010
GPU voxelization for streamlines
In 2010, he coauthors a geometrical voxelization algorithm for polygon models that computes distances on graphics processing units. The method can voxelize streamlines in 3D vector fields.
-
2017
Protecting main image objects
In 2017, he coauthors “An improved image resizing approach with protection of main objects” with Chun-Ju Chen and Shao-Hung Hung.
-
2018
Video style transfer
In 2018, he coauthors “An improved style transfer approach for videos” with Rong-Jie Chang, Der-Lor Way and Zen-Chung Shih.
-
2020
Neural traffic-sign recognition
In 2020, he coauthors “Improved traffic sign recognition for in-car cameras.” The system uses color information to identify sign regions and a neural network to recognize the signs.
-
2023–2024
CNN sand-painting generation
In 2023, he coauthors a style-transfer paper for sand-painting generation. Its 2024 extension uses convolutional neural networks. He contributes methodology, writing review and editing, and supervision.
-
2025
Depth prediction for outdoor AR
In 2025, he coauthors an augmented-reality system with Jhan-Wei Lin to present 3D architectural models outdoors. Its depth-prediction model lets real objects occlude virtual objects.
-
As of October 2026
Professor and VR/AR lab supervisor
As of October 2026, he is a professor in National United University's Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and supervises its Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory. He holds a PhD from National Chiao Tung University; his research interests include computer graphics, virtual reality, digital multimedia and image processing. The lab develops VR and AR algorithms and studies user interaction and perception in those environments.
