Baochang Zhang

Also known as Baochang Zheng

Baochang Zhang is a computer-vision researcher whose work includes Gabor-based object recognition and binary neural networks. He earned computer science degrees at Harbin Institute of Technology in 1999, 2001, and 2006, and held research posts in Hong Kong, Australia, and Italy. His research includes Gabor convolutional networks and binarized neural architecture search for compressed models on edge devices. In 2026, he was named an IAPR Fellow, and his modulated binary network was deployed in mass production for the XiaoYi XiaoYi wake-up service. As of October 2026, he is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Beihang University's School of Artificial Intelligence.
