Yunhong Wang

Also known as 王蕴红, Wang Yunhong

As of October 2026, Yunhong Wang is a professor at Beihang University, where she directs the Laboratory of Intelligent Recognition and Image Processing. The International Association for Pattern Recognition named her a Fellow in 2018 for contributions to biometrics, computer vision, and pattern recognition. She earned a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering in 1989 and then worked as a researcher at the National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition from 1998 until 2004. In 2003, IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence published her paper on iris texture analysis. IEEE made her a Fellow in 2020 for contributions to iris and face recognition, and the IAPR gave her the 2022 Maria Petrou Award.

    A degree in electronics engineering

    She earns a bachelor's degree in electronics engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University in 1989.

  2. 1998–2004

    Researcher in pattern recognition

    From 1998 until 2004, she works as a researcher at the National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition in the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

  3. 2003

    Iris texture analysis paper

    IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence publishes her paper on iris texture analysis in 2003, co-written with Li Ma, Tieniu Tan and Dexin Zhang.

  4. 2018

    An IAPR Fellowship

    The International Association for Pattern Recognition names her a Fellow in 2018 for contributions to biometrics, computer vision, and pattern recognition.

  5. 2020

    Named an IEEE Fellow

    IEEE elects her to its 2020 class of Fellows, for contributions to iris and face recognition.

  6. 2022

    The Maria Petrou Award

    Her 2022 Maria Petrou Award comes from the IAPR, which cites her contributions to pattern recognition and biometrics.

  7. 2023

    The Xia-Peisu Award

    In 2023 the CCF gives her the Xia-Peisu Award for contributions to the China computer industry.

  8. As of October 2026

    Professor and lab director at Beihang

    She is a professor at Beihang University's School of Computer Science and Engineering, where she has been a faculty member since 2004. She also directs the Laboratory of Intelligent Recognition and Image Processing.
