Ayman El-Baz
Also known as Ayman S El-Baz, Ayman S. El-Baz, Ayman El Baz
Ayman El-Baz is a bioengineer whose research applies artificial intelligence and medical imaging to diagnosis. He earned electrical-engineering degrees in 1997 and 2001, completed a Ph.D. at the University of Louisville in 2006, and became acting chair of Bioengineering in 2016. With collaborators, he developed RenalCAD for kidney-transplant rejection and co-invented a UofL AI tool for autism diagnosis. He became an AIMBE Fellow in 2019, a National Academy of Inventors Fellow in 2020, a Biomedical Engineering Society Fellow in 2022, and an IEEE Fellow in 2023; UofL named him Researcher of the Year in 2025. As of October 2026, he is professor and Bioengineering chair at UofL and Vice-chairman of the Board at Alamein International University.
