Roman Yampolskiy
Also known as Roman V. Yampolskiy
Roman Yampolskiy is a computer scientist whose research spans behavioral biometrics, cybersecurity and AI safety. He earned a combined BS/MS in computer science at Rochester Institute of Technology, completed a PhD in computer science and engineering at the University at Buffalo, and joined Louisville as an assistant professor in 2008. His 2011 publication presented AI safety engineering as an early research direction, and he became director of Louisville’s Cyber Security Lab by 2012. He wrote Artificial Superintelligence: A Futuristic Approach, received a Kentucky Academy of Science award for science education and outreach in 2019, and argued in a 2020 paper that advanced AI cannot be fully controlled. As of October 2026, he is a tenured associate professor and Cyber Security Lab director at Louisville.
