Angelo Dalli
Angelo Dalli is an AI researcher and entrepreneur whose work runs from web search and document timelines to neuro-symbolic systems. He studied AI at the University of Malta, co-developed Cronopath to turn web-search results into timelines, and wrote a Sheffield PhD dissertation on document timelines and named entities. In 2014, he led Bit8's AI gaming platform, and his intelligent transport company Traffiko was sold to Q-Free in Norway in 2015. He founded UMNAI in 2019 to turn a scalable neuro-symbolic framework into a new AI paradigm; by 2025, the company was developing hybrid intelligence for mission-critical decisions. As of October 2026, he is UMNAI's CEO and Chief Scientist.

Studying AI at Malta
He begins studying artificial intelligence at the University of Malta in the mid-1990s.
-
2006
The Cronopath timeline system
In 2006, he co-develops Cronopath, which builds timelines from web search results by assigning time frames to documents and linking them to relevant articles.
-
2010
A doctorate on document timelines
His 2010 University of Sheffield PhD dissertation is titled Timeline and Named Entity Extraction for Hyperlinked Corpora.
-
2014
AI for online gaming
In 2014, he leads Bit8 as its CEO; the gaming platform uses AI in an advanced bonus system.
-
2015
Traffiko sold to Q-Free
In 2015, Traffiko, his intelligent transport company, is sold to Q-Free after operating in Europe, Australia and the Middle East.
-
2019
Founding UMNAI
He founds UMNAI in 2019 to turn a scalable neuro-symbolic framework into a new AI paradigm.
-
November 2025
Hybrid intelligence at UMNAI
By November 2025, his latest venture UMNAI is developing hybrid intelligence that combines neural networks with symbolic reasoning for mission-critical decisions.
-
As of October 2026
CEO and Chief Scientist at UMNAI
As of October 2026, he is UMNAI's CEO and Chief Scientist, a role he has held since co-founding the organization in April 2019. In July 2026, he describes Hybrid Intelligence as a neuro-symbolic framework for decision models whose predictions can be examined through explicit modules, partitions, rules, attributions and symbolic relationships.
