Amit Acharyya
Amit Acharyya is an electrical engineering professor whose AI research links machine-learning hardware and VLSI systems with healthcare. He worked as a Scientist-B at DRDO in Hyderabad, earned a PhD at Southampton in 2011, and held a research fellowship there before taking assistant professor posts at IIT Guwahati and IIT Hyderabad. His coauthored work includes PP-Net for estimating blood pressure and heart rate from PPG signals, a reconfigurable VLSI architecture for deep-learning-based forelimb and hindlimb gesture recognition in rehabilitation, and an inductive GNN method for estimating ASIC power from RTL simulation. He received the Institution of Engineers, India’s Young Engineer Award in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering in 2015; as of October 2026, he is a professor in Electrical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Hyderabad, with research interests in embedded AI and VLSI systems for next-generation healthcare.
