Timeline

  1. 2016

    An EPFL doctorate

He earns a PhD at EPFL’s signal processing laboratory in 2016. His training includes an MSc from EPFL and a postdoctoral year in UCLA’s Computer Science Department.

  2. 2016

    DeepFool tests robustness

With Seyed-Mohsen Moosavi-Dezfooli and Pascal Frossard, he publishes DeepFool in 2016, an algorithm that computes perturbations to test deep-network robustness.

  3. 2017

    Universal adversarial perturbations

In a 2017 CVPR paper with Seyed-Mohsen Moosavi-Dezfooli, Omar Fawzi, and Pascal Frossard, he proposes a universal image-agnostic perturbation that causes natural images to be misclassified with high probability.

  4. 2019

    A Google DeepMind role

In 2019, he is a research scientist at Google DeepMind in London, working on robust machine learning and applying machine learning to mathematical problems.

  5. 2022

    AlphaTensor discovers algorithms

In 2022, he contributes to AlphaTensor, an AI system that discovers fast matrix-multiplication algorithms through reinforcement learning and adapts them to specific hardware.

  6. 2023

    FunSearch and an MIT award

In 2023, he coauthors FunSearch, which pairs a large language model with an evaluator to search code for mathematical solutions and improved bin-packing algorithms; he receives the MIT Innovators Under 35 award for algorithm discovery.

  7. As of October 2026

    Leading Hiverge

As of October 2026, he is co-founder and CEO of Hiverge, which builds an enterprise platform that coordinates AI agents to discover algorithms.
