Yiu-ming Cheung
Also known as 張曉明
Yiu-ming Cheung is an AI researcher whose work spans machine learning, visual computing and cluster analysis. He developed forecasting software for an international competition in 1995, earned a PhD in computer science and engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000, and joined HKBU in 2001. In 2002, he published a competitive-learning paper on clustering; from 2003 to 2008, he chaired the IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter. He became an IEEE Fellow in 2018, received the RGC Senior Research Fellow Award for 2023–2024, and was elected an IAPR Fellow in 2024 for contributions to cluster analysis and visual computing. He served as Dean of the HKBU Shenzhen Research Institute in 2025; as of October 2026, he is HKBU's Chair Professor of Artificial Intelligence, Dean of its Institute for Research and Continuing Education, and Associate Director of the Institute of Computational and Theoretical Studies.
