Puneet Sharma

Puneet Sharma is a computer scientist whose research spans networking and AI infrastructure. He earned a B.Tech. in computer science and engineering at IIT Delhi in 1993, completed a Ph.D. in computer science at USC in 1998, and joined HP Labs as a research scientist. He coauthored RFC 2362 for PIM-SM multicast routing; by 2012, ACM recognized him as a Distinguished Member, and IEEE named him a Fellow in 2014 for contributions to scalable networking, software-defined networks, and energy-efficient data centers. In May 2026, he presented lessons from Maestro and Wixor, projects that address Wi-Fi quality-of-experience orchestration and cellular 5G resource scheduling. As of October 2026, he is an HPE Fellow and vice president who directs the Networking and Distributed Systems Lab, leading research in AI for infrastructure, multi-cloud resource orchestration, 5G/Wi-Fi, and security.
