Nicholas Stergiou

Also known as Nikolaos Stergiou, Nick Stergiou

Nicholas Stergiou is a biomechanics researcher whose work covers human movement variability and robotic surgical training. He earned a BSc in physical education at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1989, an MSc at the University of Nebraska Omaha in 1991, and a PhD at the University of Oregon in 1995; he joined UNO in 1996. In March 2008, he coauthored a study on augmented visual feedback for da Vinci surgical training; his 2011 review and 2016 book explored nonlinear dynamics in human movement. He became a Fellow of the American Society of Biomechanics in 2017; UNeMed named UNO’s Department of Biomechanics its Innovator of the Year in 2018, and he accepted the award for the department. AAAS elected him a Fellow in 2025, and as of October 2026 he directs UNO’s Division of Biomechanics and Research Development and its Center for Research in Human Movement Variability.
