Researcher

Mufti Mahmud

Mufti Mahmud is a computer scientist who applies machine learning to biological and brain data, with a focus on explainable AI for healthcare. After computer science degrees in India and a doctorate in information engineering at the University of Padova, he held postdoctoral posts in Padova and Antwerp from 2011 to 2018, including a Marie-Curie fellowship. He joined Nottingham Trent University as a senior lecturer in 2018, became associate professor in 2021, and received the university's Vice-Chancellor's Outstanding Researcher Award in 2020. Alongside Amir Hussain and other co-authors, he wrote survey papers on deep learning for biological data, in IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems in 2018 and in Cognitive Computation in 2021. He is a Distinguished Professor of information and computer science at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and a Senior Research Scholar at its SDAIA-KFUPM Joint Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.
