Mohanarajah Gajamohan
Also known as Gajan Mohanarajah, Gajamohan Mohanarajah
Mohanarajah Gajamohan, who also appears as Gajan Mohanarajah, is a Sri Lankan roboticist whose cloud robotics work moves robot brainpower into the cloud. In 2001 he won a Japanese government scholarship, studied control and systems engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and completed a PhD at ETH Zurich in 2014. As a doctoral student, he led the Cubli project, a 15 cm cube that jumps up and balances on a corner, and served as technical lead of Rapyuta, an open-source cloud robotics framework built for the EU-funded RoboEarth project. Rapyuta Robotics, the Tokyo company he co-founded in 2014, raised 6.415 billion yen in a round led by Goldman Sachs in 2022. As of October 2026, he is co-founder and CEO of Rapyuta Robotics, which announced an end-to-end logistics solution built on its rapyuta.io platform in August 2026.

2013
The Cubli balancing cube
In 2013, he leads the Cubli project at ETH Zurich and designs it with Raffaello D'Andrea: a 15 cm cube that jumps up, balances on a corner and walks across a desk. The project records more than 10 million views on YouTube.
-
2013
Rapyuta, a cloud for robots
The paper "Rapyuta: The RoboEarth Cloud Engine" appears at the 2013 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation with him as a coauthor. He is the technical lead of Rapyuta, an open-source cloud robotics framework developed for RoboEarth, an EU-funded project to build a world-wide web for robots.
-
2014
A PhD at ETH Zurich
He completes a PhD at ETH Zurich in 2014, with research in cloud robotics and control systems. Raffaello D'Andrea supervises the work and Andreas Krause co-supervises it.
-
2014
Co-founding Rapyuta Robotics
In 2014, he co-founds Rapyuta Robotics in Tokyo with Arudchelvan Krishnamoorthy, his flatmate from their undergraduate years at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, as a spin-off from ETH Zurich. The company builds rapyuta.io, a cloud-based operating system that manages and coordinates a fleet of robots, keeping their brainpower in the cloud.
-
July 2019
A pivot to logistics
In July 2019, Rapyuta Robotics, the company he co-founded, pivots its in-house solution to logistics. It completes a pilot of a pick-assist solution with Nippon Express, one of Japan's top third-party logistics companies.
-
April 2022
A round led by Goldman Sachs
In April 2022, Rapyuta Robotics raises 6.415 billion yen in a round led by Goldman Sachs. The company plans to use the money for marketing, partner training and research and development on its rapyuta.io cloud platform and picking robot.
