Mariofanna Georgieva Milanova
Also known as Mariofanna G. Milanova, Mariofanna Milanova
Computer scientist Mariofanna Georgieva Milanova has contributed to biologically motivated computer vision and human-computer interaction. She earned a master's degree in Expert Systems and Artificial Intelligence in 1991 and a doctorate in Computer Science from the Technical University, Sofia, in 1995, then conducted postdoctoral research in visual perception at the University of Paderborn. At UA Little Rock, she joined the Computer Science faculty in 2001 and published a visual-attention model for video sequences in 2008. She chaired IAPR's Pattern Recognition in Human Machine Interaction committee from 2021 to 2024, taught a Fulbright data-science course in El Salvador in 2024, and reviewed Joy Buolamwini's Unmasking AI in 2025. In 2026, she became an IAPR Fellow and began a Fulbright US Scholar award at Abdelmalek Essaadi University-Tetouan; as of October 2026, she is Professor and Coordinator at UA Little Rock.
