Jit Bose
Also known as Prosenjit Bose, Prosenjit K. Bose
Jit Bose is a computer scientist at Carleton University whose research in computational geometry designs algorithms and data structures for geometric data, with applications in robotics, computer graphics and computer vision. After mathematics degrees at Waterloo, he completed a McGill PhD on geometric and computational aspects of manufacturing processes in 1995 and joined Carleton in 1997. In 2001, he published "Routing with guaranteed delivery in ad hoc wireless networks" with Pat Morin, Ivan Stojmenovic and Jorge Urrutia, and in 2005 Ontario gave him an Early Researcher Award for his wireless routing research. Carleton honoured his work with Research Achievement Awards in 2001 and 2021. He is Carleton's Associate Vice-President (Research), a post he took up in November 2025, and a Chancellor's Professor in the School of Computer Science.

Timeline
-
1990–1995
Waterloo degrees and a McGill PhD
He earns a BMath at the University of Waterloo in 1990 and an MMath there in 1991. In 1995, he completes a computer science PhD at McGill University under Godfried Toussaint, with a dissertation on geometric and computational aspects of manufacturing processes that wins the D.W. Ambridge Award for best PhD thesis.
-
1995–1997
From UBC to Trois-Rivières
He holds a Killam and NSERC postdoctoral award at the University of British Columbia in 1995. He becomes an assistant professor at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 1995 and moves to Carleton University in 1997.
-
2000–2002
Directing the Ottawa-Carleton Institute
From 2000 to 2002, he serves as director of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Computer Science.
-
2001
Routing with guaranteed delivery
In 2001, he publishes "Routing with guaranteed delivery in ad hoc wireless networks" in Wireless Networks with Pat Morin, Ivan Stojmenovic and Jorge Urrutia, part of his work on geographic routing in wireless ad hoc networks. He wins a Carleton University Research Achievement Award and a best paper award at the SIROCCO conference in 2001.
-
November 2005
An Ontario Early Researcher Award
As an associate professor of computer science at Carleton, he receives $100,000 from the Ontario government in November 2005 through its new Early Researcher Award program. The award backs his work on more reliable routing methods that use the geometric properties of wireless networks.
-
2021
Building efficient geometric networks
He receives a 2021 Carleton University Research Achievement Award for a project on the construction of efficient geometric networks. The project asks how to place a limited budget of connections between computers so the network approximates one in which every pair is directly connected.
-
November 2025
The Herzberg Lecture
In November 2025, he gives Carleton's Herzberg Lecture on Voronoi diagrams and Delaunay triangulations, which reveal structure in scattered points. His computational geometry research designs algorithms and data structures for geometric data, with applications in robotics, computer graphics, computer vision and geographic information systems.
-
Since November 2025
Associate vice-president for research
After serving as associate dean (research and international) in the Faculty of Science, he becomes Carleton's Associate Vice-President (Research) in November 2025. He remains a Chancellor's Professor in the School of Computer Science and is a founder of the Algorithms, Graphs and Geometry Lab, formerly the Computational Geometry Lab.
