B. John Oommen

John Oommen is a computer scientist at Carleton University whose work on learning automata and pattern recognition falls within artificial intelligence. Born in Coonoor, India, in 1953, he received his doctorate from Purdue University in 1982. From 1981 he taught in Carleton's School of Computer Science, and in 2003 he was nominated as a Fellow of the IEEE for research on subfields of artificial intelligence. In 2020 he co-wrote a paper on the finite-time behavior of the discretized pursuit learning automaton. As of October 2026, he is Chancellor's Professor Emeritus at Carleton University.
