Jitendra Malik
Jitendra Malik researches computer vision, robotics and machine learning. His shared group work includes normalized cuts, shape contexts, high-dynamic-range imaging and R-CNN. Malik earned an IIT Kanpur electrical-engineering degree in 1980 and a Stanford computer-science doctorate in 1985, and he arrived at Berkeley in January 1986. He chaired Berkeley’s computer-science division from 2002 to 2004 and its EECS department from 2004 to 2006. He chaired the department again from 2016 to 2017. His group’s research includes normalized cuts, shape contexts, anisotropic diffusion, high-dynamic-range imaging and R-CNN. His group also studies human vision, graphics and biological images.
