Jinsoo Park

Also known as 박진수

Jinsoo Park is a professor of information systems at Seoul National University whose research moves from ontologies and database interoperability to trust in AI and language models. He earned a PhD in management information systems at the University of Arizona in 1999, then taught at the University of Minnesota and Korea University. With Alan Hevner, Salvatore March and Sudha Ram, he coauthored "Design Science in Information Systems Research," published in MIS Quarterly in 2004, and in 2022 he shared the Prabuddha De Best Paper Award at the Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems for a study of AI transparency and fake news detection. He is a professor in the Graduate School of Business at Seoul National University, with concurrent posts at its AI Institute and Graduate School of Data Science, and his 2026 papers include an LLM-based fact-checking approach for short-form video news and a study of post-training for compact language models.

  1. 1994–1999

    A PhD at Arizona

    He earns an MBA and an MS in management information systems at the University of Pittsburgh in 1994. In 1999, he completes a PhD in the same field in the Department of Management Information Systems at the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management, with a dissertation on interoperability among heterogeneous geographic database systems.

  2. 1999–2005

    Assistant professor at two universities

    He serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Information and Decision Sciences at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management from 1999 to 2002. He then holds the same rank in the College of Business Administration at Korea University from 2002 to 2005.

  3. 2004

    Design science in information systems

    With Alan Hevner, Salvatore March and Sudha Ram, he coauthors "Design Science in Information Systems Research" in MIS Quarterly in 2004. The paper sets out a conceptual framework and guidelines for design-science research, the paradigm of information systems research that builds new artifacts.

  4. 2004

    Ontologies for database interoperability

    With Sudha Ram, he publishes the Semantic Conflict Resolution Ontology (SCROL) in IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering in February 2004; it detects and resolves semantic conflicts among heterogeneous databases. Their paper "Information Systems Interoperability: What Lies Beneath?" appears in ACM Transactions on Information Systems in 2004.

  5. 2004–2007

    Best-paper awards in Korea

    He receives the IBM BCS Young Fellow Best Paper Award from the Korea Society of MIS in 2004, then best research paper awards at its fall conference in 2006 and at the Korea Intelligent Information Systems Society spring conference in 2007.

  6. 2008

    A most-cited MIS Quarterly article

    In 2008, Thomson Reuters selects one of his MIS Quarterly articles as the most cited paper in business and economics.

  7. 2022

    A best paper on AI transparency

    With Kyuhan Lee and Jihae Suh, he wins the Prabuddha De Best Paper Award at the 2022 Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems in Copenhagen. Their paper, "Is Transparency the Best Policy? Impact of (Im)Plausible AI Transparency on Human Trust in AI for Fake News Detection," examines how AI transparency affects human trust in AI for fake news detection.

    Professor at Seoul National University

    He is a professor of information systems in the Graduate School of Business at Seoul National University, with concurrent posts at its Graduate School of Data Science and AI Institute. His 2026 papers include an LLM-based fact-checking approach for multilingual fake news detection in short-form video news, in Information Systems Frontiers in July 2026, and a study of stepwise post-training of compact language models for business applications, in the Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems in September 2026.
