Hanseok Ko
Also known as Ko Hanseok
Hanseok Ko is an electrical engineer and AI researcher whose work links spoken-language technology with multimodal AI. He earned a B.S. at Carnegie Mellon in 1982, an M.S. at Johns Hopkins in 1986, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Catholic University in 1992. At Korea University, he held faculty and IT leadership roles, worked at the US Department of Defense, and led a Samsung-sponsored research center on multimodal CCTV technology. Through IEEE conference roles, an IET Fellowship, and the INTERSPEECH 2022 General Chair role, he helped organize speech and signal-processing research, and ISCA named him a Fellow in 2023 for innovation in Korean and English speech-language technology. Catholic University installed him as Newton-Bennett Endowed Chair in April 2025, and as of October 2026 he is a professor and directs the Multimodal AI Lab after giving an ICIGP keynote in March 2026.
