Allen Tannenbaum

Also known as Allen Robert Tannenbaum

Allen Tannenbaum was an applied mathematician whose work spanned control theory and computer vision. He was born in New York City in 1953 and completed a Harvard doctorate in 1976. From 1986 to 2002 he was a full professor at the University of Minnesota, and in 1992 he co-wrote the textbook Feedback Control Theory with John Doyle and Bruce Francis. In 1993 he and Guillermo Sapiro published an affine invariant scale-space in the International Journal of Computer Vision. He joined Stony Brook University as a professor of computer science and applied mathematics in 2013, and he died in 2023 as a Distinguished Professor there.
