Jinhong K. Guo
Also known as Jinhong Katherine Guo
Jinhong Katherine Guo is a signal processing and image processing researcher at the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories whose work spans signature forgery detection, document analysis and secure communication. After studies at Tsinghua University and Northeastern University, she joined Panasonic as a research scientist in 1996 and completed a PhD at the University of Maryland, College Park, under Azriel Rosenfeld in 2000. With David Doermann and Rosenfeld, she developed methods that match stroke segments to spot forged signatures, and in 2002 she coauthored work on classifying document pages through logical labelling. By 2012 she had moved to Lockheed Martin, and her paper on extracting entities from human-generated tactical reports won the Best Paper Award at Complex Adaptive Systems 2015. She became an IEEE Fellow in 2026 and serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence.

Timeline
-
1996
Research scientist at Panasonic
After undergraduate studies at Tsinghua University and a master's degree from Northeastern University, she joins Panasonic as a research scientist in 1996.
-
1997
Spotting random signature forgeries
In 1997, she coauthors "Local correspondence for detecting random forgeries" with David Doermann and Azriel Rosenfeld for the International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition in Ulm, Germany. The method segments signature strokes into stylistically meaningful pieces and matches a questioned signature against a reference signature to flag random forgeries.
-
2000–2001
A Maryland PhD under Rosenfeld
While working at Panasonic, she completes her PhD at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2000 under the supervision of Azriel Rosenfeld. In June 2001, she publishes "Forgery detection by local correspondence" with Doermann and Rosenfeld in the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence; the method compares geometric properties of matching substrokes and uses a Gaussian statistical model to set its decision threshold.
-
2002
Page classification by logical labelling
In 2002, she coauthors "Page classification through logical labelling" with Liang Jian, David Doermann and Matthew Ma for the International Conference on Pattern Recognition. Their approach represents a page layout as a fully connected attributed relational graph and matches it to the graph of an unknown document, classifying and labelling the page simultaneously.
-
By 2012
A move to Lockheed Martin
By 2012, she has moved from Panasonic to Lockheed Martin. In December 2012, she publishes "Context aware information delivery for mobile devices" in the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence with Stephen A. Knott, Ray Yuan Sheu and Martin O. Hofmann.
-
2015
Best paper at Complex Adaptive Systems
Her paper "Extracting meaningful entities from human-generated tactical reports", written with David Van Brackle, Nicolas LoFaso and Martin O. Hofmann, wins the Best Paper Award at Complex Adaptive Systems 2015.
-
2026
Named an IEEE Fellow
In 2026, she becomes an IEEE Fellow for contributions to signal processing and trust in secure communication systems. The IEEE Communications Society counts her among its 59 members elevated to Fellow for 2026.
-
As of October 2026
Researcher at Lockheed Martin
As of 2026, she works as a signal processing and image processing researcher at the Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories. She also serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence.
