Jia Gu
Also known as 辜嘉
Jia Gu is a professor at City University of Macau who works on medical AI, computer vision and image-guided robots. Trained in biomedical engineering at Southeast University and holding a 2005 doctorate from the University of Rennes 1, they worked from 2008 to 2017 as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology. Their coauthored work from 2018 includes a convolutional neural network for liver segmentation and fastp, a FASTQ preprocessor that became their most-cited paper. As chief scientist in Zhuhai from 2017 and deputy director of the Suzhou Institute of Advanced Technology until 2024, they received the National Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Award in 2019. Since 2024, they are a professor in the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau and academic lead of its Hengqin Advanced Research Institute, and in 2026 they became a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
