Jia Li

Also known as Li Jia

As of October 2026, Jia Li is the founder of Project Numina, where he leads work on large language models for mathematical reasoning and formal theorem proving. He entered École Polytechnique in 2010, where a professor introduced him to computer science, AI, and machine learning, then studied mathematics, vision, and learning at Télécom Paris. He co-founded Cardiologs in 2014 to apply machine learning to ECG analysis. Numina began in late 2023, and its NuminaMath 7B TIR system won the first AIMO Progress Prize in 2024. He coauthored the 2025 Kimina-Prover Preview, which reached 80.7% on MiniF2F, and the 2026 Numina-Lean-Agent, which solved all 12 problems in the 2025 Putnam competition.

Timeline

  1. 2010

    Training in mathematics and AI

He moves from China to France for preparatory classes and enters École Polytechnique in 2010. Professor Renaud Keriven introduces him to computer science, AI, and machine learning; he later studies the MVA master's in mathematics, vision, and learning at Télécom Paris.

  2. 2014

    Co-founding Cardiologs

With Yann Fleureau, he co-founds Cardiologs in 2014 and leads its technical work on machine-learning software that analyzes ECGs and detects heart abnormalities.

  3. 2022

    Cardiologs joins Philips

Philips acquires Cardiologs in 2022, taking in the AI cardiac-diagnostics company he co-founded and led as CTO.

  4. 2023

    Founding Project Numina

In late 2023, he helps found Numina with Yann Fleureau, Guillaume Lample, Stan Polu, and Hélène Evain, with initial support from Mistral AI. The group develops open AI for mathematics.

  5. 2024

    The first AIMO win

Numina and Hugging Face win the first AIMO Progress Prize in 2024 with NuminaMath 7B TIR, which solves 29 of 50 private-test problems. The team combines natural-language reasoning with Python code execution.

  6. 2025

    Kimina-Prover for theorem proving

In 2025, he coauthors Kimina-Prover Preview, a language model for formal theorem proving. It reaches 80.7% on MiniF2F with pass@8192.

  7. As of October 2026

    Leading Project Numina

In January 2026, he coauthors Numina-Lean-Agent, which solves all 12 problems in the 2025 Putnam competition. As of October 2026, he leads Project Numina as its founder, developing large language models for mathematical reasoning and formal theorem proving.
