Gai‐Ge Wang
Also known as Gai-Ge Wang, Gaige Wang, 王改革
Gai‐Ge Wang is a computer science professor at Ocean University of China who develops bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithms in swarm intelligence and evolutionary computation. After earning a master's degree in intelligent planning at Northeast Normal University, he began a doctorate in computational intelligence at the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics in 2010 and published a mutated bat algorithm for uninhabited combat air vehicle path planning in 2012. From November 2015, he worked as a visiting scholar at the University of Alberta with Witold Pedrycz and proposed monarch butterfly optimization, the earthworm optimization algorithm and elephant herding optimization. Clarivate named him a Highly Cited Researcher in 2021 and 2022, and he coauthored the 2024 book Metaheuristic Algorithms: Theory and Practice with Xiaoqi Zhao and Keqin Li.
Timeline
-
2010
Doctorate in computational intelligence
After earning a master's degree in intelligent planning and planning recognition at Northeast Normal University in Changchun, he begins a doctorate in computational intelligence and its applications in 2010 at the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
-
2012
Bat algorithm for flight paths
In 2012, he publishes "A Bat Algorithm with Mutation for UCAV Path Planning" in The Scientific World Journal. The paper proposes a bat algorithm with mutation that modifies solutions between bats to plan routes for uninhabited combat air vehicles.
-
November 2015
Visiting scholar at Alberta
From November 2015, he works as a visiting scholar at the University of Alberta in Canada, guided by Witold Pedrycz. He also proposes three bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithms: monarch butterfly optimization, the earthworm optimization algorithm and elephant herding optimization.
-
November 2019
Monarch butterfly optimization for knapsack problems
With Yanhong Feng and Xu Yu, he coauthors "A Novel Monarch Butterfly Optimization with Global Position Updating Operator for Large-Scale 0-1 Knapsack Problems" in Mathematics in November 2019.
