Witold Pedrycz
Witold Pedrycz works on computational intelligence, with fuzzy modelling, neurofuzzy systems, and granular computing for human-centric systems. He received an M.Sc. in 1977, a Ph.D. in 1980, and a D.Sci. in 1984 from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, and he joined the University of Alberta faculty in 1998. He was president of the International Fuzzy Systems Association and of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society, and he served as general chair of NAFIPS in 2004. In 2012 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and in 2013 he received a Canada Council for the Arts Killam Prize and the IEEE Fuzzy Systems Pioneer Award. As of October 2026 he is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Alberta and is also with the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
