Researcher

Daniel P. Palomar

Also known as Daniel Palomar, Daniel Pérez Palomar

Daniel Palomar is an optimization researcher whose work spans signal processing, machine learning, and financial data. He earned an electrical-engineering doctorate at the Technical University of Catalonia in 2003, held a Fulbright appointment at Princeton by 2006, and joined HKUST in 2006. He became an IEEE Fellow in 2013, coauthored a majorization-minimization review selected for the 2020 IEEE Signal Processing Society Young Author Best Paper Award, and became a EURASIP Fellow in 2024. In 2024, he coauthored a paper on false-discovery-rate control, and in 2025 he published Portfolio Optimization: Theory and Application. As of October 2026, he is a professor in HKUST's Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering.
