Chen Lin
Also known as 林琛
Chen Lin is a computer science researcher and professor at Xiamen University whose work spans recommender systems, e-commerce search, language-model pretraining, and AI for science. After earning a Bachelor of Science in computer technology at Fudan University in 2004 and a Doctor of Science in computer software and theory there in 2010, she joined Xiamen University's School of Information in January 2010. Her publications include non-compensatory psychological models for recommender systems at AAAI in 2019, a content collaborative graph neural network for e-commerce search at SIGKDD in 2023, and the Rho-1 selective language modeling framework at NeurIPS in 2024. She received the ICIC Best Paper Award in July 2024, a NeurIPS Best Paper Runner-Up honor in December 2024, and the IEEE Early Academic Award in March 2026, and as of October 2026 serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor in Xiamen University's School of Information.

Timeline
-
2000–2010
Degrees at Fudan University
From 2000 to 2004, she studies computer technology at Fudan University and earns a Bachelor of Science in 2004. She completes a Doctor of Science in computer software and theory at Fudan University in 2010.
-
2010
Joining Xiamen University
In January 2010, she joins the School of Information at Xiamen University.
-
2019
Non-compensatory recommendation models
At AAAI in 2019, she coauthors “Non-Compensatory Psychological Models for Recommender Systems,” which applies non-compensatory rules to rating and ranking models. Experiments on real-world data sets show improved recommendation performance for both rating and ranking models.
-
2023
Content graph for e-commerce search
In 2023, she coauthors “E-commerce Search via Content Collaborative Graph Neural Network,” a paper on e-commerce search in the ACM SIGKDD conference proceedings.
-
2024
Rho-1 selective language modeling
In 2024, she coauthors “Rho-1: Not All Tokens Are What You Need,” published in the NeurIPS 2024 proceedings as “Not All Tokens Are What You Need for Pretraining.” Using Selective Language Modeling, Rho-1 scores pretraining tokens with a reference model and trains the language model with a focused loss on higher-scoring tokens.
