Chao Shen

Also known as 沈超

Chao Shen is a researcher at Xi'an Jiaotong University whose work spans identity authentication, AI security, and trustworthy multimedia analysis. He joins XJTU as a student in 2003, researches at Carnegie Mellon, and earns a Ph.D. before teaching at his alma mater. His work on intelligent-system control and security earns the 2023 IEEE SMC Early Career Award. He chairs an IEEE SMC and CSS Xi'an joint chapter, which receives a society award in 2025; IEEE and IAPR elect him Fellow in 2026. As of October 2026, he directs XJTU's Ministry of Education laboratory for intelligent networks and network security and serves as chief scientist for a national research program.

    Joining XJTU as a student

    He joins Xi'an Jiaotong University as a freshman in 2003 and interns in its Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Intelligent Networks and Network Security.

    He works as a research scholar in Carnegie Mellon's Computer Science Department from 2011 to 2013. His doctoral research develops identity-authentication theory from human-computer interaction behavior; in 2013, he coauthors ‘User Authentication through Mouse Dynamics.’

    He earns a Ph.D. in system engineering in 2014 and starts teaching at XJTU. In 2018, he becomes a professor and deputy dean of its School of Cyber Science and Engineering.
