Albert Chi-Shing Chung
Also known as 鍾志成
Albert Chi-Shing Chung is an artificial intelligence and computer vision researcher whose work applies computational methods to medical image analysis. He studied as an exchange student at the University of British Columbia, earned a computer engineering BEng at the University of Hong Kong and postgraduate degrees at HKUST and Oxford, then joined HKUST's CSE department and visited MIT's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His Oxford thesis won the British Machine Vision Association's Sullivan Doctoral Thesis Prize in 2002, and he founded HKUST's Lo Kwee-Seong Medical Image Analysis Laboratory. With former PhD student Tony Mok, he shared first-place results in image-registration challenges in 2020 and 2021 and the brain tumor sequence registration challenge in 2022. After holding Exeter's Chair in Artificial Intelligence and returning to HKUST, he took part in a 2025 Tsinghua SIGS exchange; since June 2026 he is Associate Dean of Engineering (Strategic Planning and Development) and a professor in HKUST's Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
