Robert Playter
Robert Playter is a roboticist whose career connects biped control research with mobile and humanoid robots. He earned an aeronautical engineering PhD at MIT in 1994, directed robotics at Google from 2013 to 2018, and returned to Boston Dynamics as CEO in 2019. At Boston Dynamics, he guided a shift toward commercial products such as Spot and Stretch, and discussed the all-electric Atlas as a planned product for industrial and logistics work; he also described the Toyota Research Institute partnership using Large Behavior Models with Atlas. At Web Summit in November 2025, he said AI had changed robot programming and described teaching a humanoid to grasp and place objects through human teleoperation.
