Gui Cavalcanti

Gui Cavalcanti is a robotics engineer who presents soft-robot work at TechCrunch’s 2019 Robotics + AI event. At Olin, he leads the first assembly of Intel’s open-source Jimmy robot; in 2015 he co-founds MegaBots and helps build the giant Eagle Prime mech. In 2019, he leads Breeze Automation’s air-filled robot work for NASA and the U.S. Navy, and starts an open-source medical-supply effort during COVID-19 in 2020. As of October 2026, he is head of engineering at PitPro Automation, where each robot he ships uses 61 electric, pneumatic and hydraulic degrees of freedom.

Timeline

  1. 2009–2012

    Stompy and Project Hexapod

He graduates from Olin College in 2009 and interns at Boston Dynamics as a student. He starts Artisan’s Asylum as an after-work workshop and co-founds Project Hexapod, where he teaches 15 students to build Stompy, a 4,000-pound rideable robot.

  2. 2013–2014

    Assembling Intel’s Jimmy robot

At Olin’s Robotics Lab, he leads the first physical assembly of Jimmy, an open-source walking, talking robot. In December 2013, he orders the Super Jimmy parts, and the robot debuts at the 2014 World Maker Faire.

  3. 2015–2017

    MegaBots and Eagle Prime

In 2015, he and Matt Oehrlein set out to build the Mk. II MegaBot. He co-founds MegaBots in Hayward, California, and in 2017 helps build Eagle Prime, a 5-meter-tall, 430-horsepower robot that battles Japan’s Kuratas.

  4. 2019

    Breeze’s soft robots

In April 2019, he is CEO and co-founder of Breeze Automation and presents its soft-robot work at TechCrunch’s TC Sessions: Robotics + AI event. The company’s robotic arms use air-filled fabric structures for work in dangerous settings such as underwater and outer space, and it showcases contract work for NASA and the U.S. Navy.

  5. 2020

    Open-source medical supply plans

In March 2020, he starts an effort to document COVID-19 and index open-source medical supply plans for local production. The effort draws 33,000 collaborators and 28 medical professionals to review open-source designs.

  6. 2025

    PitPro’s tire changer

Before PitPro, he works at Boston Dynamics and Third Wave Automation. In June 2025, he co-founds PitPro Automation with Jeremy Conrad and unveils an automated wheel changer for Class 3 and smaller fleet vehicles. The system completes all four tire changes in under 15 minutes.

  7. As of October 2026

    Head of engineering at PitPro

As of October 2026, he is head of engineering at PitPro Automation. He says each robot he ships uses Delta Motion’s RMC200 controller to control 61 electric, pneumatic and hydraulic degrees of freedom.
