Patanjali SLPSK
Also known as Patanjali Sristi Lakshmiprasanna Sriramakumara, Patanjali Sristi
Patanjali SLPSK is a computer scientist who studies hardware security and the security of AI systems, and who develops AI models for hardware design and defence. He studied electronics at Pondicherry Engineering College and earned his Master's and PhD in computer science at IIT Madras in 2020. In 2019, he coauthored the White Mirror paper on how encrypted traffic reveals a viewer's choices in Netflix's interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, and from 2019 to 2023 he was a postdoctoral researcher with Swarup Bhunia at the University of Florida. By 2025, he was an assistant professor at Augusta University's School of Computer and Cyber Sciences. He is an assistant professor in the Department of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras, with research interests in cybersecurity for AI and AI for systems and security.

Timeline
-
2007–2011
Electronics degree at Pondicherry
He studies electronics and communication engineering at Pondicherry Engineering College in India from 2007 to 2011 and earns a B.Tech.
-
2012–2020
A PhD at IIT Madras
In 2012, he begins graduate work at IIT Madras under Kamakoti Veezhinathan and converts his MS to a PhD in 2014. He completes his Master's and PhD in computer science there in 2020, with a thesis on gate sizing for energy-efficient and secure digital design.
-
2019
White Mirror and Netflix traffic
In March 2019, he and four coauthors, Gargi Mitra, Prasanna Karthik Vairam, Nitin Chandrachoodan and Kamakoti V, post the White Mirror paper to arXiv. It shows that a viewer's choices in Netflix's interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch can be revealed from encrypted traffic, with a worst-case accuracy of 96% on a dataset of 100 viewers. Wired features the team's Netflix privacy analysis in April 2019.
-
2019–2023
Postdoc at the University of Florida
He joins the Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World at the University of Florida in late 2019 as a postdoctoral researcher under Swarup Bhunia, and stays until 2023. His work applies the solutions from his PhD thesis to IoT and AI systems. In June 2021, he delivers a webinar on AI-guided heuristics for Trojan attacks for IEEE CEDA/HSTTC.
-
2023–2024
TVF, MeLPUF and IOLock
He coauthors TVF, a metric for quantifying vulnerability against hardware Trojan attacks, in IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Systems in July 2023. MeLPUF, a memory-in-logic physically unclonable function for low-overhead IC authentication, appears at IEEE PAINE in October 2023. IOLock, an input/output locking scheme against reverse engineering attacks, follows in the same journal in February 2024 with Christopher Vega and Swarup Bhunia.
-
2024
Cybersecurity workshop for the Army
In 2024, he conducts a month-long cybersecurity workshop for the Indian Army, in conjunction with Pravartak and IIT Madras.
-
By 2025
Assistant professor at Augusta
By 2025, he is an assistant professor at Augusta University's School of Computer and Cyber Sciences in Georgia. His research areas there are AI for system design, AI for hardware security and cybersecurity for AI.
-
As of October 2026
Assistant professor at IIT Madras
He is an assistant professor in the Department of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras. His research interests are cybersecurity for AI and AI for systems and security.
