Max Q.‐H. Meng

Also known as Max Qing-Hu Meng

Max Qing-Hu Meng is a robotics researcher whose work applies AI to medical imaging and surgical robotics. He earned a master's degree in automatic control at Beijing Institute of Technology in 1988 and a doctorate in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Victoria in 1992, held faculty posts at the University of Alberta from 1994 to 2004, and joined CUHK as a professor in 2002. He became a Fellow of IEEE in 2008 and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2017. In 2026, he coauthored DetSAM, a framework that integrates a detection module with Segment Anything to produce automatic multi-class surgical instrument segmentation, and was elected to the Royal Society of Canada. As of October 2026, he is Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at SUSTech.
