Joydeep Ghosh
Joydeep Ghosh is a machine-learning and data-mining researcher whose work spans clustering algorithms, multi-learner systems, trustworthy AI and health informatics. After earning a B.Tech. at IIT Kanpur in 1983 and a Ph.D. at the University of Southern California in 1988, he joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin in 1988 and became an IEEE Fellow in 2004. In 2005 and 2007, he coauthored papers on clustering and co-clustering with Bregman divergences and von Mises-Fisher distributions, and he later received the IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award in 2015, a Distinguished Clinical Research Informatics Paper Award in March 2017 and the IEEE ICDM Research Contribution Award in 2020. As of October 2026, he is the Schlumberger Centennial Chair Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UT Austin and founder-director of the Intelligent Data Exploration and Analysis Lab (IDEAL).
