Li Jia

Also known as Jia Li, 李佳

Jia Li is a computer scientist at Tsinghua University whose work uses AI to improve software development. He completed a PhD in computer science at Peking University in 2025 and received the Excellent PhD Student Award at ChinaSoft 2023. He coauthored Structured Chain-of-Thought prompting and Self-Edit for code generation and correction, plus aiXcoder-7B for code completion and EvoCodeBench for code model evaluation. The Structured Chain-of-Thought paper became a featured article in TOSEM in 2026. He is an assistant professor in Tsinghua's College of AI and leads its AI Agent Group, where he works on code foundation models and coding agents.

    Peking University doctorate

    From September 2020 to July 2025, he pursues a PhD in computer science at Peking University's School of Computer Science under Zhi Jin. He completes the degree in 2025.

  3. May 2023

    Structured chain-of-thought prompting

    In May 2023, he and three coauthors propose Structured Chain-of-Thought prompting for code generation, which structures intermediate reasoning around sequence, branch and loop patterns.

  4. July 2023

    Self-Edit for code correction

    In July 2023, he coauthors Self-Edit, a generate-and-edit method that uses execution results from generated code to guide a fault-aware editor in correcting errors.

  5. October 2024

    aiXcoder-7B for code completion

    In October 2024, he coauthors aiXcoder-7B, a 7-billion-parameter model for code completion that reports higher accuracy than existing models at a 7-billion-parameter scale.

  6. October 2024

    EvoCodeBench for code evaluation

    In October 2024, he coauthors EvoCodeBench, a benchmark built from real repositories that refreshes samples to reduce data leakage and evaluates models across programming domains.

  7. Since August 2025

    Assistant Professor at Tsinghua

    In August 2025, he joins Tsinghua University's College of AI as an Assistant Professor. His research connects artificial intelligence and software engineering, including code generation, test generation and code repair.

  8. 2026

    Structured CoT featured in TOSEM

    In 2026, his Structured Chain-of-Thought paper is selected as a featured article in TOSEM.
